Making toys

Ok, I admit it.  I enjoy knitting and crocheting.  Yes, it's a grandma-hobby but I can't just sit and watch TV or just sit.  My favorite thing to do right now is either high-tech (on the computer) or low-tech (knitting/crocheting).  I'm actually kinda proud of this since my grandma was wonderful in this craft.  She was always knitting or crocheting.  I remember her crocheting in fine cotton thread curtains for the house.  She also knitted us grandkids outfits for us to wear to church.  Since I was more of a teenager when she was doing a lot of knitting, I wasn't real fond of these outfits.  My grandma was thrifty so she usually got yarn on sale in very odd colors.  I remember an outfit she made me was in the color of ochre.  Do you know what ochre looks like?  Baby diarrhea!  The other outfit she made me and still makes me laugh is a black and orange swimsuit.  At that time, there wasn't any yarn that was made to wear in the water.  So you can imagine what happened when I dove in.  Yarn is a lot like a sponge so when I dove in, the swimsuit fell off.  It's funny now, not then.

So I started crocheting (I'm not as good on this) before I retired.  I saw this book with crocheted turtles and my daughter is a big turtle lover so I had to make it.  Plus I thought it was cool that you can stuff the shell with turtle eggs and baby turtles.  Since I did that one for her, I needed to make one for my boy.  He was born in the Year of the Tiger so I crocheted one for him.  I wasn't too crazy about my finish work si I thought I'd knit a USC scarf to hide the stitches around the neck.  I thought it would also be cool to make a Six Taste apron for his business.  He can use it as his mascot for his business.

Let's try blogging again!

So, I'm trying this again.  I've made efforts using Tumblr, did a vacation one using Blogspot, and another one I can't even remember.  I've always wanted to write or journal but never followed through.  My grandpa kept a diary for years.  He wrote about things he did on a daily basis, journaled what he ate, tracked his expenses...but I didn't see anything about his thoughts or his feelings.  I can't say that I'd be willing to expose myself that way on this blog but who knows.  I did that once and then deleted what I wrote.  Too personal. So I think I'm going to do one recording what I've been doing since I've retired.  That seems to be the most common question people have asked me.  So what are you doing now that you've retired?  So, I'm going to start posting things that represent what I've been doing with my time.  Hmmmm...so let's begin!

Carpe Diem

“To live each day as if it were your last, you would be tryin to remedy all the mistakes you had made, all the regrets, all the things unsaid.  If you live each day as if it were your first, you are freed from all obligations, all guilt, all regret.”

I feel like such a sneak!

So instead of working out this morning I told the hubby, “No, seriously I can’t go!  I’ve got so much work to do.”  So I did what I needed to do and now I’m on the computer.  Someone at work told me about this fabulous website called unhub.com.  It allows me to put all my sites together and manage them.

Oh-oh…spent too much time on FB and now the hubby appears!  Yikes…I gotta go…

Oh…false alarm!  I’m really trying to wean myself from all this social media and the POSSIBILITIES but it sure is a time-sucker!  I bet I can sit here all day and just be some computer geek but I know that isn’t healthy.  Damn…too bad I can’t just do this outside, soak up some Vitamin D and cruise the endless world of the internet.

I miss my Tito!  I used to borrow this album of his when I was in high school.  Now that he has been gone for over a year, I still can’t quite comprehend how quickly time has flown by.  I know he’s got a big smile on his face because he will soon have 4 grandbabies.  I think this song should be shared with his little angels.  Miss you always.
